Ask any desert guide which trip they would take themselves and most of us will say this one. At sunrise the Al Badayer Red Dunes are firm, the wind has redrawn the crests overnight, and almost nobody else is out there — so instead of the usual 30 minutes you get roughly 40 minutes of red-dune bashing, with no convoy traffic to wait for. The low morning sun throws long shadows down the slip faces, which is why photographers book this slot over the evening one.

A private 4WD collects your group from your Dubai hotel, runs out on the Dubai–Hatta Road (E44), and after the drive you stop high on a ridge for pictures, try sandboarding on cool sand that slides better than it does in the afternoon heat, and take a short camel ride. Water and refreshments travel with you. Total time is about four hours, so you are back in the city by late morning with the rest of the day intact — useful if you are also doing Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall or a beach afternoon.

Be clear on one thing: this is a morning tour, so there is no camp dinner and no evening show. If you want the BBQ and live entertainment, take an evening safari instead. From May to September the morning slot is by far the more comfortable option.
