The desert part does not change: the same Land Cruiser or Patrol, the same run out on the Dubai–Hatta Road (E44), the same 30 minutes of red-dune bashing across the Al Badayer Red Dunes at Big Red, the same high-dune photo stop, sandboarding and short camel ride. If the drive is all you care about, book the standard evening safari and keep the AED 50.

What the upgrade buys is the three hours after sunset. You get an upgraded setting at our Al Badayer Desert Camp — better seating with more room around it, an extended refreshment service and an upgraded BBQ dinner served alongside the full entertainment programme: Tanoura spinning, belly dance and the fire show. For couples, for a birthday, or for anyone who does not want to eat elbow-to-elbow at a long communal table, that is where the money goes.

It is still a shared desert safari, so the 4WD carries other guests. Want both the upgraded camp and your own vehicle? That is the private luxury evening safari.
